70 Deakin Avenue

About the building

The building at 70 Deakin Avenue has been identified as an important part of our region’s civic history.

Built in 1922, the 551sqm property was the first Mildura Shire offices before the Shire relocated its main administration base to Irymple in 1971.

It was identified in a 1988 Mildura Conservation Study as being historically significant to our region and a valuable contributor to the 1920s architecture of Deakin Avenue.

The study also found the building serves as a lasting reminder of the changing patterns of local government administration of our city over the years.

Consultation

Mildura Rural City Councillors will in June this year consider a proposal to purchase 70 Deakin Avenue.

While Council is still investigating possible uses for the building, we’re encouraging local residents to provide their feedback on the potential purchase so that it can be considered as part of any decision.
