The Establishment of Jaycee Park

Reel provided Frames of History in collaboration with Bruce McLean

Jaycee Park is classified as a regional level reserve located in the Riverfront Precinct which is highly valued by the community and provides an important tourism attraction for the region. The Riverfront Precinct has experienced significant investment over the last 15 years to reflect the ambitions of the Riverfront Masterplan. The Adventure Playspace is identified as Stage 3. Jaycee Park was developed as public open space in 1976 by the Jaycee Club of Mildura and Council. The Adventure Playspace was originally set to be at Nowingi Place. Council decided to relocate the playspace to Jaycee Park following the 2022 flood that inundated that area. Prior to the flood council had undertaken consultation and design.

The relocation of the playspace to Jaycee Park has allowed Council to review that design in consultation with the community, children’s voice and stakeholders and plan for its integration at the new location. Council also wishes to maximise the potential of the playspace to lobby for grant funding to further enhance the playspace and its supporting facilities.

The design review provides opportunities to further diversify the play, facilities and inclusive offerings. Everyone Can Play Inclusive Play Guidelines and Australian Playspace Standards have been referenced in the review. In addition, opportunities to celebrate history, environment and culture will be investigated including collaboration with local artists and cultural groups.

Once consultation is complete, and a full Concept and Costings Plan endorsed, Council will then work to secure the funding required to deliver the Playspace to its full potential. The project may need to be delivered in stages depending on the outcome of external funding
