Reference Group - Expressions of Interest

Expressions of interest are sought from community members with a passion for Mildura's heritage to form a Reference Group to assist Council and the consultants GML Heritage Victoria, with preparation of the strategic background for a future planning scheme amendment, to include relevant sites in Council’s heritage overlay.

Council encourages representation from community members, and groups with an interest and experience in local heritage. This group is to act in an advisory capacity to ensure relevant issues are referred for consideration and inclusion.

The Reference Group will commence in August 2022 with a concluding date of March 2024.

For more information about how to lodge an Expression of Interest for consideration, please see the Information for Reference Group Members, Application Form and Terms of Reference in the Document Library.

While formal nominations for Reference Group membership closed 22 August 2022, if you have any further queries about this project please contact the Project Officer Bernadette George on (03)5018 8427 or by Email: Bernadette.George@mildura.vic.gov.au

Background

The study aim is to undertake a comprehensive review of heritage items and places for the Mildura Rural City Council. Part of the review considers and updates (where required) items identified in the Mildura Conservation Study, 1988 (known as the Andrew Ward Study). Additional items and places were nominated for consideration and further assessment through the work undertaken in Stage 1 of the project.

GML Heritage Victoria (formerly known as Context) have been working to review Mildura’s heritage assets, including preparation of a thematic environmental history, Community consultation and engagement activities, and the identification of potential heritage places.

A Community Reference Group made up of knowledgeable community members, representing each of the smaller townships and the main centre, and the Council's Heritage Advisor Garry Stanley, was established at the start of the project.

Stage 1 of the project identified assets for assessment was completed in August 2020. Please see the Document Library for a copy of the project report.

Stage 2 of the project will assess the items and places previously identified and confirmed as requiring further assessment in Stage 1 of the project.
